Legal Internship Program

MFHC’s Legal Internship program provides undergraduates and law students with a unique opportunity to gain experience working in public interest law and to advance civil rights at the local level.  MFHC’s mission is to enforce fair housing laws by defending victims of illegal housing discrimination and to promote fair housing practices through education, research, and the dissemination of information. All Legal Internships are unpaid but can potentially earn interns college credits.

Responsibilities

Legal Interns assist attorneys and legal advocates in providing non-profit legal services and conducting community outreach. Responsibilities include:

• Conducting legal and factual research to support discrimination complaints
• Drafting housing discrimination complaints
• Preparing fair housing outreach materials
• Assisting in answering and writing discovery
• Interviewing clients

Internship Periods

MFHC offers several internships throughout the academic year and summer.   Interns are expected to make weekly commitments as reflected below.
